Congratulations to long standing supporter Les Jones, from Llanidloes in Powys, is to receive an MBE for his charity work for the Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital Charity as well as his community work in Powys.
81-year-old Les has been recognised in the Queen’s Honours list for having raised nearly £120,000 for the Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital Charity in the past ten years from a variety of events, including sponsored walks, music concerts, bottle stalls and raffles. Les joked that it was a “full-time job”.
His first donation of £2,000 came from his wife Jean’s funeral in 2002.
He said; “Jean raised money for the appeal before I even knew what it was all about. She was a former nursing sister, so realised the importance of it. I was inspired to carry on the fundraising for the appeal.”
About receiving an MBE, he said: “I’m over the moon, not only for myself but for the people who support me. It’s a great honour.”
Les’ biggest one-off donation was £25,000 for a family room at the Children’s Hospital forWales, so parents could stay with their sick children.
