A record 15,900 runners took part in the Cardiff Half Marathon this year, which is now the second biggest 13.1 mile race in the country after the Great North Run. For Noah’s Ark it was also a record breaking year as 102 runners strode out to raise funds for the charity in our new running vests sponsored by our lovely friends at My Garment Factory Cardiff!

There were teams of co-workers such as the team from Virridor and Finance Wales, first timers such as Esyllt and partner Rhys, friends of the charity like Mark Hislop and Andrew Price, those who smashed their PB and the fundraising target like Josh Collins and patient parents such as Rachael Smith and Claire Brown.

Claire decided to run for the charity as her son Jacob, now 21 months, was treated on Ocean ward at the Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital for meningitis at just four weeks old. With Jacob now a healthy toddler Care wanted to give something back; “we were very cared for in all aspects. The staff at Ocean ward are second to none, the job they do with children is phenomenal.”

The day was a huge success all round with 52 students from Cardiff Sixth Form College volunteering on the day to cheer on our runners at different spots throughout the course and lots of visitors to our stand in the runners village. Early figure show we can expect £12,000 in sponsorship from our fantastic team this year!

We have already had lots of runners expressing an interest in running for us in 2015 if you would like to be added to our running mailing list email our running co-ordinator Olivia on olivia@noahs-ark-appeal.org

Thanks to all our runners, supporters and cheerers – see you next year!
