MANDATORY BYLINE - Huw John, Cardiff Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital Charity – Family Fun Walk – 13th Sept 2015 Sunday 13th September, 2015, saw Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital Charity, host their 2nd Family Fun Walk in Cardiff Bay. More than 250 walkers, consisting of past & present patients, family, friends, and charity supporters took part in the event, delivered in partnership with IKEA Cardiff. Local businesses including Rikashake Barry, Little Parties Wales and Maria’s Zumba provided entertainment and the warm up, prior to the 3k and 10k walks. Lucy Owen, broadcaster and Vice President of the Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital Charity, was on hand to offer her support and officially start the walk, along with President of Noah’s Ark Charity, Lyn Jones. Prior to the walk Lucy told us “I’m thrilled to be taking part in this year’s Family Fun Walk. As a mum myself, I know only too well the importance of our children’s hospital and providing for the care of sick and vulnerable children. And what better way to raise funds than keeping fit around beautiful Cardiff Bay!” Suzanne Mainwaring, Director of Noah’s Ark, said: “We are delighted with the success, of the Noah’s Ark Charity Family Fun Walk. Every penny raised makes a huge difference to the care and support we can offer children at the hospital. The Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital Charity supports the hospital in many ways. This includes the purchase of specialist equipment such as the new Hydrotherapy Pool, five Computer Integrated Theatres, a brand new MRI scanner, and the funding of the play specialist team who help children come to terms with their conditions.” The Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital Charity is the only charity exclusively fundraising for the Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital for Wales. We rely on the generosity of the people of Wales to support our National Children’s Hospital. Twitter: @huwjohnpics mail: mail@huwjohn.com Web: www.huwjohn.com

Both  the fun 3k walk and the little more ambitious 10k walk started with a party atmosphere at the Norwegian Church, Cardiff Bay. Local businesses including Rikashake Barry, Little Parties Wales and Maria’s Zumba provided entertainment and the warm up, prior to the start. Music as always was provided by Bryn Stone, our DJ.

Little Oliver Jones aged 20 month old was one of our younger walkers. Mum, Katie Jones explained how Oliver was diagnosed with heart and kidney problems, at just 2 weeks old and has received treatment at Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital for Wales. Katie told us that they were thankful for the care Oliver received and wanted to support the hospital, through the Noah’s Ark Charity.

Malia Wyson aged 11, is a current patient at Noah’s Ark Hospital. She suffered a stroke in July and is still recovering. Mum, Marissa and Dad, Lee were only too happy to support the event and raise funds to support facilities like the Play Therapists, who have played a vital part in Malia’s recovery.

We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who took part in the walk, those who supported the event with product donations and sponsorship and to the volunteers who gave up their Sunday morning to pull together a fantastic event!
