Owain Doull

Owain was born in Cardiff in 1993 and as a child he was a keen sportsperson, playing rugby as a schoolboy as well as cycling for the Maindy Flyers. In 2010 he was selected for the 2011 British Cycling’s Olympic Development Programme and was part of the Wales team that entered the 2011 Commonwealth Youth Games on the Isle of Man, obtaining 2 medals. In 2012 Owain completed the Olympic Development Programme and was accepted into the British Cycling Academy Programme.

Owain’s first competitive tournament for Great Britain was at the 2013 UCI Track Cycling World Championships in Minsk and his first podium finish was at the 2013 UEC European Track Championships,where as part of the team pursuit, he took gold. Further team pursuits, races and medals have been won before Owain turned professional in 2014.In 2015 he moved to the new WIGGINS team set up by Bradley Wiggins aiming to prepare British riders for the team pursuit at the 2016 Summer Olympics.

As the son of paediatric consultant Dr. Iolo Doull, Owain has grown up understanding the need of Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital for Wales and for its continued support. He joined the charity in the summer of 2015 and told us, “I’m honoured to be an Ambassador for the charity and look forward to doing my bit”.
