A team of nurses on the paediatric critical care unit at the Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital for Wales have signed up to become real life superheroes for their patients this September. The team of nurses will be taking part in the 5K family friendly Superhero Dash in Pontcanna Fields and are already planning their outfits.

Emma Smith, senior nurse on the paediatric critical care unit, says: “We’ve signed up as teams to put money back into the pot for a charity that supports our work in so many ways. As well as funding vital equipment for the unit, they provide parent packs to help families who are admitted with their child in an emergency and do lots of nice things for the children like arrange birthdays and special visits.  They also help us with a project we launched recently to support siblings.”

“After everything, the charity does for the patients and for us, it’s our way to give back. We’re hoping for some nice weather and to also have a good time and a good laugh whilst fundraising for this incredible charity.”

Noah’s Ark Charity event manager, Rachael Southcott says: “We watch the incredible work that the clinical teams do here at the hospital every day. They always go above and beyond for the children and families in their care.  For us, they genuinely are heroes and our Superhero Dash is just as much about celebrating them as it is the little superheroes they work so hard to look after.”

Will you become superheroes for the patients of Noah’s Ark like our real-life heroes from the paediatric critical care unit? By signing up you make it possible for us to support the 73,000 children that receive care at the Wales’ only children’s hospital each year.

It’s your donations and fundraising that makes it possible for us to support families in ways like this. Thank you.
