21 challenges for our 21st year
To celebrate our 21st birthday, we’ve put together a list of 21 challenges for you to try at home. It’s thanks to supporters like you that we’re able to continue in our mission to create brighter todays and better tomorrows for the children of Wales.
1. Hold a 2000s music disco in your kitchen to celebrate 21 years of Noah’s Ark
Create a Spotify playlist of you favourite 2000’s tunes and dance in your kitchen as you reminisce to years gone by. Get your family and friends involved virtually using Zoom or FaceTime and get the party started.
2. Run/walk a mile a day for 21 days
Lace up those trainers, grab the dog and run or walk a mile a day for 21 days. With the weather slowly getting better, it’s a great excuse to get outside and get your daily dose of Vitamin D. Take the kids and get them to scoot or cycle along with you for that extra motivation. If you’re looking to challenge yourself even further, why not sign up for our Step Challenge? It’s free to register!
3. Hula hoop 21 times
If you fancy doing something a little bit different, why not invest in a hula hoop and do it 21 times a day for 21 days? It will not only get you fitter, it will make you smile and even laugh along in the process. Fun for little kids and bigger kids too!
4. Get on your bike and cycle 21 miles/21 minutes/21 hours for Noah’s Ark
Whether you’re a cycling novice or a biking pro, getting on your bike for Noah’s Ark is a great way of injecting some exercise into your day, but also gets the blood pumping. Why not take the family and have a picnic? If you do fancy taking on a bigger cycling challenge, take a look at the Cardiff Cyclothon, happening in June, to coincide with the Tour De France.
5. Hold a sponsored silence for 21 hours
If you’re a chatty chappy, challenge yourself to a sponsored silence for 21 hours to raise money for Noah’s Ark. This is a great one for the kids and something to keep them occupied. Ask family and friends to sponsor your silence. It’s tough but we know you can do it!
6. Play a memory game and try to remember 21 items
Give your memory a run for its money and organise a virtual memory game. Collect together 21 items and try to remember them all.
Just imagine you’re taking part in the Generation Game and make sure to include a ‘cuddly toy’ in your remembered items!
7. Donate £21 to Noah’s Ark
If you’re not feeling a challenge or don’t have the time, you can still support us. By donating £21 to the Noah’s Ark Charity, you’re helping us to continue being there for children and families who need us the most. Make a donation here!
8. Do 21 star jumps every day for a month
Be the superstar that you are and do 21 star jumps every day for a month to raise money. You could do it in your front room, your garden or virtually with friends.
9. Hold a virtual bake-off
Seeing as we’re celebrating our 21st birthday, why not plan a virtual bake-off and create a special birthday cake? Then you could challenge your family and friends to take part and get them to donate to take part. Make Mary Berry proud this summer and get creative with your baking.
10. Do a virtual quiz where all questions relate to the year 2000
The year 2000 – the year of the millennium, the millennium dome and of course the dreaded millennium bug! Challenge your friends, family and colleagues with a quiz all about the year 2000. Questions about the music, the films, the fashion and the gadgets are a great way to recognise the start of a new century. Hold it over Zoom, charge an entry fee and get quizzing!
11. Hold a Netflix watch party and show films from the year 2000
The year 2000 was a great year for film so why not re-visit it and hold a watch party – where you and your friends watch the same film in your own houses but set up Zoom so it feels like you’re all together?
Just a few family-friendly classics released that year are:
- Chicken Run
- The Emperor’s New Groove
- 102 Dalmatians
- The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle
- The Grinch Who Stole Christmas
12. Donate 21 items to our charity shop – have a good declutter!
If you’ve accumulated pre-loved items for us during lockdown, you can donate them to our Birchgrove charity shop. How about donating 21 pre-loved goodies and signing up for Gift Aid too?
That means we can update you on how much your donations have raised. It also means that we can claim an extra 25p per £1 from the government.
13. Give something up for 21 days
This is a great challenge for the bigger kids. Promise to give something up for 21 days and be sponsored to do it.
You could give up chocolate, coffee, takeaways or tipple for three weeks and raise money for Noah’s Ark. It’s tricky but you can do it!
14. Collect £21 in a Noah’s Ark cardboard money box
Got lots of loose change hanging around? Why not get one of our Noah’s Ark Charity money boxes and raise £21 from spare change?
You can pop it by the front door or in your bedroom and when emptying out change from your pockets, pop it in the box.
Drop us an email here to get yours!
15. Do 21 sponsored good deeds
If you and your family want to give something back while fundraising for Noah’s Ark, you could commit to doing 21 sponsored good deeds, like:
- Washing a neighbour’s car
- Baking someone a cake
- Doing a litter pick
- Drawing pictures and sending them to someone on their own
- Donating to a food bank
16. Walk 21k with your dog during our birthday month
And if furry friends didn’t think it could get any better, why not promise to walk your dog 21k during our birthday month?
It’s not only great for you, but your four-legged friend too. We’d ‘woof’ you to get involved!
17. Hold a 21st birthday tea party for Noah’s Ark
Whether you put jam on your scones first, or clotted cream, holding a tea party to celebrate our birthday can be done by people of all ages this summer. Hunt out your best table cloth and finest tea-ware and get involved.
18. Karaoke night with songs from 2000s…charge everyone £1 a song request
Although we can’t be together for karaoke at the moment, doing a virtual karaoke is a great Saturday activity. Get your drinks and snacks at the ready, loads up your 2000s playlist and get singing along. Charge everyone £1 for every song request you take. Take yourself back to the year 2000 and host a Britney vs Christina sing-off, a Backstreet Boys vs N’Sync dance-off and get in the spirit of the millennium!
19. Ask friends and family to donate to Noah’s Ark on your birthday this year
To celebrate our birthday during 2021, why not set up a Facebook Fundraiser? You can then ask family, friends and colleagues to donate on your birthday to the Noah’s Ark Charity.
It’s really easy to do and can be shared with everyone you know. Set yours up here!
20. Do 21 minutes of your favourite hobby every day for 21 days
Whether you’re a keen knitter, a creative crochet-er or a an avid artist, doing your favourite hobby for 21 minutes every day for 21 days would be a great way to raise money for Noah’s Ark while doing something you love!
21. Commit to your challenge/s for the whole of 2021!
If you really want to set yourself a big challenge, why not commit to doing your challenge every day for the rest of 2021?
The bigger the challenge, the more people will want to donate to you and support you on your journey.
